Last Thursday, September 22, nursery crop producers in the
Mobile/Baldwin County area held a follow-up
meeting at the Jon Archer Ag Center to meet
with government officials and express their
concerns about hurricane-related damage to their
operations. Approximately 175 growers made
the effort to attend and represent our industry.

come to this important meeting.

forwarded to our representatives in Washington,
DC, along with our requests for changes to
official language in various programs so that nursery growers can be
included in agricultural aid packages (see
below).
Hurricane Disaster Nursery Losses for the Mobile
County Area
This summary is based on
losses incurred within the 50 weeks from Ivan to
Katrina which include named storms Cindy and
Dennis. This reflects 59 entries out of 210
possible responses in Mobile and Baldwin
Counties combined.
Reported inventory value is $94.4 million with
an average per nursery of $2,483,752.
Individual nursery inventory loss was as low as
2% and as high as 100%.
