Alabama is having its second Economic Impact Study relating to the State’s Green Industry. The first group of the survey's for Nursery and Greenhouse Growers are being mailed this week. Other groups will be mailed out over the next two weeks.
Since our last EIS (of 2003) was published, we have seen the benefits of having this information available. Many of us in our industry have seen an increase of awareness both in local municipalities, in Montgomery and in Washington. Many thanks go to hundreds of our professionals who participated in this first study.
The results from the first Economic Impact Study in 2003 showed Alabama Green Industry was the fastest growing agricultural industry in the state with a total Economic Impact of $1.9 billion. It is with great anticipation as an industry, we will be able again to see the actual dollar impact 5 years later.
The Alabama Nursery and Landscape Association (ALNLA), is as before, partnering with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System under the leadership of Dr. Deacue Fields, III, Professor in the Department of Agriculture Economics and Rural Sociology, Auburn University. Dr. Fields developed the survey, and compiled the information gathered during the first study and we are fortunate to have him again to oversee this current project.
Thank you for helping us to get an accurate current economic picture of Alabama’s Green Industry.
